The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Life is One Big Canvas!

Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint you can at it.

Danny Kaye

Well, we at the School of Flaunt would beg to differ when it comes to Makeup! We know you have seen it, spatula makeup, replete with huge black eyes now known as the Smoky Eye, and large garish eyebrows screaming across the forehead! Or just as bad those eyebrows that have been over tweezed so they are little skinny lines above your eyes! Puhleese, all of these can be scary!

Now go to the mirror and we mean now! Is Lady Gaga, the ultimate in shock value, who makes us, feel like someone just used a taser on us, or Adam Lambert staring back at you? Students of flaunt they are all about THEATRICS! You are not! Last time we looked you were not a celeb or rock star trying to get into People or US magazine, or for that matter booked into Las Vegas! Note: Lady Gaga has produced some great music and we will admit here that we voted for Adam on American Idol! Just saying …

But let's get back on topic.

Remember when Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee went all "Natural" on one of their shows? Yes they really did! Ladies it was not a good thing! No matter how beautiful they are, they proved that we all need makeup.   Whoops, having said that we really do love them though!

So where are we?

Makeup is supposed to enhance your looks, not send small children screaming for their Mothers! And yes we do want you to wear some makeup! Most of us are not Heidi Klum who wakes up gorgeous! You need a great foundation, blush etc. But you don't need layers of eyeliner and large butterfly eyelashes for a day time look! And that smoky eye thing either! Save those for the evening!

Note: Most men want to see their ladies looking flaunt fabulous with makeup on. We've heard them say that they feel a woman thinks more of herself if she takes the time to put on makeup. But they don't want that hooker look either unless they are actually looking for a hooker. Ooops, harsh but true!

School of Flaunt devotees, we are begging you here (yes, you may picture us begging) please have a professional do your makeup! They will show you the best brushes, age appropriate looks, and how to combine colors. These "flaunt artistas" of the makeup brush can give you that flawless skin and take years off of that tired face. They can show you how to be Red Carpet glam for night too!

Now, go wash your face with a great product, then take yourself to Neiman Marcus or a comparable establishment, and have your make up DONE by a professional. We can recommend Bobbie Brown, Armani, YSL. The key here is moderation!!!. A clean look for day and the office. Slight enhancements in the eye area for the evening. Save the Full Blown Makeup for the Black Tie event. And ladies we beg of you, tone down your Wedding Makeup…. a white Bridal Gown with a Face Full of garish makeup is an OXYMORON.

Get thy self into a salon and have your hair done too. Why are we bringing this up? Because we feel quite certain that if your makeup needs some refining your hair style probably does too. Are you looking in the mirror now?

One last thought, if you are beyond 50 years of age, less is MORE. Makeup cannot correct lines and wrinkles. It only makes it WORSE! Remember Baby Jane!!!

Finally, our perfect example for makeup is Kate Middleton. We have never seen her with garish makeup or having a bad hair day, for that matter.

Yours in flaunt,

Cate Clarke and Alexandra Smythe
