The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Super Bowl Partee or Make Your Life Easy!

SUPER BOWL PARTEE

Or

Make your life easy!

For years you would see the traditional fare of Fritos with onion dip, deviled eggs, mile long subs, potato salad, pigs in a blanket, Chex mix, and more potato chips and pretzels than you would ever want at Super Bowl parties. All with plenty of beer. Obviously we aren't talking a Downton Abbey formal dinner here! Which we might add would be terrible out of place for Super Bowl fun. But getting back to our menu there is nothing wrong with this but let's think a little more upscale and more things to appeal to a large group.

What do we mean? We are still talking easy but having a real variety. How does one do that? So simple! Let the supermarket or Costco be your new best friend for entertaining. Stop rolling your eyes and hear us out!

Variety is the spice of a Super Bowl party and easy to eat finger foods with some substance too! First, put out a spread of different dips (hummus, artichoke/spinach etc.) with a variety of crackers, chips and raw veggies. That is a given. Everyone loves those! (More ideas listed below. All can be found at the market and you do not have to spend time on preparation) Please, fresh guacamole only though. We do hate that prepared stuff! ICK!! Guacamole is so easy, try this.

Alexandra's Guacamole

Ripe avocadoes - at least 5 - peel and remove seed. (Make sure you get ripe ones!) Crush with a fork and keep crushing until you have the desired consistency. We prefer slightly chunky. Squeeze in the juice of one fresh lime. That is LIME not lemon. Mix together. Then add one small white onion that you have chopped into small pieces. Add that to the avocado and mix. Then add onion salt to taste and more lime juice if needed. Remember start with a little you can always add more.

Some people like to add chopped and seeded tomato. That is personal preference. I have had so many compliments on my Guacamole with this recipe. Note: Place avocado seeds on top of prepared guacamole to keep it from getting discolored. Place in an airtight container and keep in refrigerator until ready to serve. Don't make any earlier than 2 hours max before party.

Team Pop Corn?

Continuing on here is a fun idea that people love: Pop popcorn ahead of time. Use individual lunch size brown paper bags that you have decorated. Make up labels on the computer with the names of the teams. Something like SUPER BOWL 2013, RAIDERS vs. FALCONS Fill up the bags about 3/4ths full so you can fold over the top and have a marker out that they can put their name on the bag with. You know how easy it is to put something down and then not know if that was your bag of popcorn or someone else's. Put the bags of popcorn in a large basket or two and decorate with ribbon the colors of the Raiders and the Ravens. Who doesn't like popcorn?! Only thing we would suggest is do this about one hour before the guests are to arrive. It will take a little more time than you thought. This is something the significant other can be doing while you are either instructing your handy staff or putting the finishing touches on your buffet table. Remember set up the bar and basics the night before!!

Snacks

O.K. so now you have plenty of pre-pared dips, pita bread, chips, pepperoni, salami, cheeses, variety of olives, nuts, and anything else that strikes your fancy for those football fans to nibble on. But what about something with more substance? Again the supermarket or Costco is your best friend!

Half Time Football Feast

Put out a spiral cut ham (we prefer Honey Baked) that they can make into sandwiches. (To help the guests, pre cut smaller pieces of ham and have them placed next to the full ham. Replace as needed.) We like a side dish of cranberry sauce that people can put on the ham or eat on the side. Mustard and mayo should be available. Don't forget those wonderful little slider buns are perfect for this occasion. Yum! But don't stop there, get smoked pulled pork and add some barbeque sauce to it. Keep it hot in a chafing dish and they can have pulled pork sandwiches. Coleslaw makes a perfect accompaniment that they can put on top of the pork too! Then get some hoagie buns, cut in half and have them sitting beside some meatballs covered in your favorite marinara sauce in a chafing dish, again there are a number of prepared meatballs that are fabulous! Great meatball sandwich and again no fuss no muss!

You now have three completely different sandwiches or people can also eat these meats without bread if they want too.

For side dishes, we recommend Cilantro potato salad, you can make the day before. Many good recipes on the internet. We also have a recipe on our www.schoolofflaunt.com site for Tamale pie casserole that would be great too! Don't forget you have the coleslaw out for the sliders. And if you think you need this put out a huge salad in a wonderful bowl and dressing on the side. (Really this is for the women.) Nothing worse than soggy salad!

Extras

Not enough? You will find a recipe for Homemade Potato chips on our site. You can bake them or fry them. Delicious with blue cheese dip! A definite hit! And if you like get those spicy chicken wings too. They can be purchased most anywhere, one less thing to do. If you have warming drawers and a server your entertaining will be so much easier! Remember those drawers for the next home you build!!

If you want to make a real hit, deep fry French fries. Fry them outside though! Way to smelly for the house but they will be devoured at the party. Just fry them up and put them in a basket and let people help themselves. They go nuts for these! You can season them with anything you like. Chili powder, cumin, garlic salt or plain!

Raise the Bar

As for beverages, Bloody Marys, beer, wine and maybe sangria would be fun. Make sure you always have water sitting out!!! We love those beverage containers that are glass and on stands. Again you can get those at any big box store! And puhleese if you don't float some lemon slices in your water you are not School of Flaunt material.

Touchdown! Dessert

Dessert after the game is over! You guessed it, sounds corny but get the cake that looks like a football. Have a bowl of fresh fruit and put some Grand Marnier on it. And finally a bowl of fresh whipped cream for topping the cake or fruit.

Another Flaunt Fabulous event!

Alexandra and Cate

P.S. We will forgive you if you use theme colored plastic dishes and utensils at this type of event since people will be doing so much nibbling. Otherwise you know we really don't like plastic. ;-) Do try to use real glasses though for beverages if at all possible. At least for the wine! Merci!! And may the best team win!!!
