The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Meet Miguel

How I found Miguel is quite usual, a recommendation from another satisfied friend so I decided to look at his website on the internet: Michael's Painting. Hmm, Michael's? I called, arranged an interview and instantly a new friendship was formed.

Not only is Michael, really Miguel, but he is a plump, cute, smiling artist. His meticulous work is second to none I have seen. We have moved Miguel in to the guest house and he has taken over the painting of our home. First the exterior and now room to room the interior is being freshened by our Miguel. Why do I see me as Candice Bergen in an episode of Murphy Brown here? Mr. Clarke fears that the painting will never stop! How silly of him. You'd think I had told Miguel to paint the inside of the garage. On second thought that might be on his list of things to do. I'll talk about the garage in a minute.

Miguel calls me Miss "Catty". I never corrected him and now that name has stuck. So as I cater his lunch (he prefers mayo to mustard) and bring him soft drinks, water and coffee, I am watching our home transformed by his magic paint brush.

But here is the best part, not only does Miguel do painting, but he does antique window restoration, plus his one brother is a carpenter and another owns a body shop. This opens all kinds of new doors and projects, for he noted Mr. Clarke's auto was in need of some work as Mr. Clarke had tangled with the garage door. Yes, the garage door was fixed by Miguel's brother, Juan, the carpenter and the car by Jesus. I wonder if they have family that does catering. Just a thought.

But there is more to Miguel than his work; he is a devoted father, divorced with children. I did not ask him any details, but the two children have come over to swim and are adorable. He showers them with love and attention as much as a man who works most days of a week can do.

Miguel and I love to talk about traveling and booking great airfares. I will take credit for getting him on the computer and now he is booking with ease. In fact, last weekend he traveled to California, to attend his youngest brother's graduation from Law school. Perfect, a painter, carpenter, body shop owner and now an attorney in the family. Oh sorry I forgot they aren't really my family.

Today he has started painting our master bedroom, next will be the master bath. I see him looking longingly at the foyer, which Mr. Clarke said, "just needs some touch ups," and smiling. He knows he will paint the whole foyer eventually.

So a new family member has arrived. I am sure we will know Miguel for a long, long time because the Guest house can stand a few touch ups too.

Now, who can I fix Miguel up with?
