The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Cate's Deal of the Day!

"You deserve to be pampered with today's deal! You can do just that without breaking the bank. Pick your choice of luxurious spa services from the destination that knows a thing or two about pampering at the Most Trendy Salon and Spa in the area." (Would they say anything else?)

The ads goes on, "Take advantage of any of these amazing treatments offered by our incredibly talented skin care specialists for a truly relaxing spa experience. Enhance your eyes with a professional eyebrow waxing, brighten skin with a delicious smelling Pumpkin Enzyme Facial, or relax with an Ear Candling. Fall Spa Sensations! Only available for the next 12 hours or for the first twenty people!"

Yes, we have all read these emails which are so enticing and I decided to take advantage of some "Fall Flaunt" Makeovers! So I printed my coupon and made the call.

Here I go!

First stop: Ear Candling. This intrigued me. Ear Candling? Yes. Read on.

I enter the waiting room that has "spa" soothing music, you know what it sound likes! My guide tells me that this is the Meditation Room. OK. Where is the Dalai Lama? No where to be seen. So we will wait for the meditation.

I am then given a comfy robe and slippers and it is off to the treatment room with my personal guide for my Ear Candling. What to expect? I wasn't sure and wished that Alexandra was here to have hers done too!

So here is the procedure; in an ear candling session you begin by lying on one side while a candle is placed into the ear canal to create negative pressure and remove wax and toxins from your ear. The candle is made from cotton or linen that is soaked in wax and hardened. Said to be safe and non-invasive the procedure is described as a holistic and natural approach to removing build-up and toxins from within your ears and facial sinuses. Hmmm interesting.

I'm then informed that ear candling has been used by the Hopi people for generations! Who knew? Wonder if it helps with tinnitus?

My take: This was soothing, but nothing came out of my ears. What's with that? Grade B.

On to my next stop, eyebrow waxing which they said would be quick and easy. My esthetician was wonderful in shaping my brows. She even gave me a quick darkening to for them. Lovely results. A+

Now on to my Pumpkin Enzyme Facial. Sounds yummy! 90 minutes of lushness! All I needed was Whipped Cream!

My take: This facial was soothing and smelled lovely. My skin came out gleaming and well moisturized. Could have been and A+ but no whipped cream so grade is A. If they had only served hot Apple Cider with Tuaca and whipped cream afterwards it would have been perfect!

All in all my Deal of the Day was still a big A PLUS because it was half off!

Now I can recommend to Mummy, who was afraid to try any of the above. Never ceases to amaze me that the woman will take a 5 foot jump on a hunter, but won't try a new facial or massage! I love horses, but give me a spa any day!

Now back to the Meditation Room for a nap.

X0X0,

Cate
