The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

PBS, Joel Harper and Coconut Water!

Recently I was watching PBS and one of the shows that came on was called Joel Harper's Firming After 50. I was too lazy and totally relaxed on the couch at 9PM to bother to get the clicker to change stations, so I started to watch this program. Of course it was a fund raiser for PBS too.

But I digress, after a few minutes of watching Joel, who I may add is not hard on the eyes either, I was really getting into this. Now you are all scoffing, I can hear your little minds ticking right now. Oh big deal. Fess up; you were thinking that, right?

Well, let me tell you he has a senior standing behind him (his 73 year old Mother) for the beginners, a great looking woman who probably is around 40 for the intermediate, and then himself for the advanced, and they are all doing these exercises together.

I find myself now sitting on the edge of the couch. My God I'm thinking you could do this the rest of your life. This is great! And trust me if you can keep up with Joel more power to you!

So the next day I call LB and tell her about Joel's show on PBS and how I'm getting his video. (Serves two purposes, helps PBS and me too!) LB takes this all with a grain of salt shall we say. It was a luke warm reception at best but she said she would check it out.

A few hours later she calls me back and says she found Joel on PBS and how I'm right! She's babbling into the phone now at a rapid pace and says, "I kept saying to myself why can't I keep up with these people?" I'm smiling to myself now and loving it! A small aside here: LB is the most limber person in the world and not heavy. So when she says, this is a work out believe you me it is!

Now for those of you who don't know who Joel Harper is, he is a physical trainer who has been featured in publications and TV programs. From Esquire to Oprah! And if Oprah puts her seal of approval on you then you must be good.

Flaunt Flash News: Hello New Yorkers this is really great!! Joel has his own studio where you can get training sessions for $150 per hour or he will come to your Manhattan home (and we aren't talking Kansas here) for $200 per hour! I better tell Cate about this one. I can see her and Mummy now with Joel. Oh would I like to be a fly on the wall for that session.

So what does this all have to do with coconut water? Well, remember I was just with the FFF (Flaunt Fab Forty) for lunch. What do women talk about? You guessed it, weight! Well, I tell them about Joel and LB chimes in about how she loves him and is going to get some more of his videos and then the topic of Coconut water comes up.

This is a new craze, well, kind of new; it has been around in the states now for approximately 5 years but is a staple liquid in Southeast Asian nations. People are swearing by this drink because it is high in potassium but low in salt. Health clubs are going through it by the cases!

Now the School of Flaunt does not give their recommendation to this beverage since sports drinks have been developed to provide electrolytes specifically designed for athletes. But if you want to be in the SOF know, then do have a few bottles in the refrigerator. We understand that it is quite good with a fresh pineapple spear. Hmmm, wonder what a little Vodka in it would be like?

So don't say, "Who knew?" You do now.

Happy Exercising with Joel. I love him!!

P.S. Joel has even modeled. As I said, "Not hard on the eyes while you are doing your exercising together." ;-)
