The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Oh Lord Stuck in Lodi

Remember Creedence Clearwater , Stuck in Lodi? It goes like this, Oh Lord stuck in Lodi, stuck in Lodi again, forget it I'm not going to sing to you. Check it out on You Tube. But I digress this song title came to mind the other night at one of our favorite little eateries. Why am I bringing this up?

Well, last week I didn't feel like cooking so I suggested to Mr. Smythe that we dine out. He is always agreeable to this suggestion since he knows from past experience that if he says no to reservations, then it is, "make yourself a sandwich Honey!" Stop laughing!

So we arrive at our favorite little spot and the staff immediately greets us as if we are family. I love that! When you are a regular they do cater to you. SOF advice, make sure you have at least one restaurant that you frequent on a regular basis. Makes life so much easier!

Anyway, we are perusing the wine list and make a selection. Our waitress who knows us all to well comes back with a bottle of wine and says, "I'm sorry we were out of what you ordered." Oddly enough this had happened to us on our last visit there also. Obviously she was embarrassed.

She apologizes profusely and says she wants us to try the bottle she has brought us and if we like it, it is complimentary. What was it? The wine was OZV. It is a Lodi Zin, 2008. Ironically the description below was exactly what my husband said after he tasted it.

Here is the description off the bottle:

2008 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel. A robust Zin from Lodi's signature 50 to 100 year old vines. "Jammy" with raspberry, milk chocolate and mocha flavors, soft tannins and a supple mouth feel. A delicious expression of Lodi's unique terrier. Produced and bottled by Oak Ridge Winery, Lodi, CA.

We enjoyed this so much that my husband wrote down the name of the wine and Googled it when we got home. There is now a case in the wine cooler. (You all do have a wine cooler or a wine cellar?) But here is the very good news, we have seen it as high as $29 per bottle but you can get it for $12.99 per bottle if you Google enough.

Just a Flaunt Fiscal Tip for you. Every wine does not have to be over the top expensive to be a delightful part of your evening! So let us know what little gems you have found in your local wine shop. Inquiring SOF minds need to know!

Bon Appetite!

P.S. No offense Lodi residents but I only want to be stuck in one of your wineries. Then I'll be heading out of town to Napa. ;-)  But I will be singing Oh Lord stuck in Lodi but I love your Zins!! Bet Creedence Clearwater drank their Zins too!
