The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Lunch with the Flaunt Fab Forty!

"Even the Flaunt Group Needs SOF Help"

We all hadn't met in a number of months, so a Road Trip was planned for a day out. Road trip where?

Well, one of the Flaunt Fab Forty (which I will now refer to as the FFF) has a lovely home on a lake. When I say lovely I mean, what a "partaaay" house! You walk in and there is a large foyer which flows into a great room and dining area. Now when I'm saying great room I mean GREAT room!

This great room had a huge seating area with lots of overstuffed chairs and couches, a dining area to seat 12 and a massive sit down bar in the center of it. On the side of the bar were a poker table and a flat screen so you could be watching your favorite football experience too.

But what made this home flaunt fabulous was not the size but the view. As we say in our SOF handbook always have a view if possible. Well trust me SOF devotees, this had the VIEW! Windows galore looked out over a massive wrap around deck that faced the lake. But it didn't stop there. There was a lower level to the home which also had a massive wrap around patio with covered sitting areas, fire pit, covered boat slip (wouldn't want that boat to sit out in the sun would you?) and huge pots filled with flowers. GORGEOUS!

Oh what a glorious afternoon. Tons of food (it was a potluck), lots of wine and our hostess had plenty of help to serve and clean up after us! Perfect!!

Note: Very important detail, no plastic! As in glasses, dishes or utensils. So hate plastic but that is a topic for another discussion.

So why does the FFF need my advice. Well, you aren't going to believe this one! I was chatting up some of my friends when one of the FFF comes over to me and says, "What does the rest of the house look like?" My reply, "Well, there is a loft upstairs and I'm not sure where the bedrooms are located."

At this point she grabs the hand of Little Jo (5 foot 2 inches and 100 pounds dripping wet) and says, "Let's go look." As she starts to pull Jo, Jo turns to me with her big pleading brown eyes as if I'm to save her. What am I to do? Jump in front of them and say STOP! Well, that is not an option. Teaching others manners in public is just as bad as the one who is displaying the poor form!!

A few minutes later they return and Jo is looking relieved. She says, "There is a loft area upstairs for a library but nothing else." Meanwhile the snoop is saying, "Wonder where the bedrooms are?" My response, total quiet!

Sometimes no response is the best response! Just because someone has money doesn't mean they have manners. Just saying.

So my dear students, unless the hostess offers to take you on a tour of their home it is off limits to your snooping eyes. Capisce!

P.S. LB got my memo. (Just kidding) We hadn't discussed what we were going to wear and both of us showed up in black and white, black sun hats and even black patent leather sandals and red toe nails! I think we hang out to much together? Sunglasses? Should have guessed, LB has the same pair. Beginning to think we were twins who were separated at birth!
