The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Chance Encounter

It was a busy day at a major airport and I had three hours to kill, sound familiar? Where are all the nonstops? Anyway, after perusing the Book Store and assorted Mall shops, I wandered to the Airport Lounge.

Standing in line and fishing for my membership card, I heard someone call my name! Cate? I turned and there he was my first boyfriend, serious boyfriend. Wow! He looked great! I felt slightly panicky and wondered how my makeup was holding up???

We shook hands and then an awkward hug ensued. He, now a Dr. and still so handsome, asked if we could have a coffee? Well yes, I guess so. Both of us were traveling alone and to different destinations, I might add. This chance encounter was nothing short of a miracle. Go figure, as my daughter would say.

We took a table near the window overlooking the runways. Coffee was ordered and then a light lunch. We both produced family photos on our smart phones. His children and wife were lovely. He fawned on my Fiona, although not on my husband. We both updated each other on our parents and the health of such. Both his parents had passed away. He now living in CA was going to a meeting and visiting family in another part of the country. Wow. What memories we had. Laughing about how young and silly we once were. Comparing parenting skills, I admit I was a tad nervous but finally I calmed down and just tried to enjoy my lunch partner.

He said he should be angry at a mutual friend we had that had introduced me to Mr. Clarke. He had never known of this connection. I reminded him, that we were living in different cities at the time and he was swamped with his medical residency and I was not high on his list of Priorities', and he had never proposed.

Well, he nearly fell off the chair. He said he always thought I would be there. Sadly, no. Once I met my husband that was it. I never looked back. There was an air of what might have been, but we both are leading great lives and we would not change that.

We parted and said we would keep in touch. Sharing family photos, etc.

He invited me to bring my family to CA to meet his. Then added that his daughter might think it a bit odd, (me thinking, and what about your wife?)

Anyway my airport layover "flew by". He gave me a little kiss and we said goodbye. I was happy to have this chance encounter. Isn't life amazing?
