The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Back to RL in Chicago

I dashed for a quick visit to Chicago to view the latest MCA show featuring Mark Bradford. So there was no excuse not to have a great meal at RL, Ralph Lauren's great restaurant on the Mag Mile!

My husband and I were seated right away, and Mr. Clarke was impressed with the Swanky Clubby décor. The martini that came up quickly was perfection!

The menu is extensive and we decided on Crab Louie and Calves Liver with Coffee Reduction. As we waited, we gazed around the beautiful dining room to subtly check out the clientele. Then we saw her. Kim Kardashian and her wild family were dining and making quite a fuss. All the Kardashians and Jenners were in attendance. Lots of dark hair, dark makeup, short skirts, although Bruce was appropriately attired, if you get my drift. The hair-flipping was comical.

They seemed to be enjoying their meal and the lack of public attention, when in walked the TMZ crew with cameras and paparazzi! The management flipped! Words were exchanged! The Kardashians ran out of the restaurant and into awaiting town cars. Wonder if they were going to a Drive Thru for dinner?

The mayhem caused all our meals to be postponed, while some of Chicago's Finest, the police, entered to tangle with TMZ, who refused to leave the bar.

This is not a large venue, and everyone was upset and many started to leave, sans dinner. After thirty minutes, there were just two tables, ours and a lovely older couple with hearing aids.

The other couple could not be bothered and enjoyed their soup and main course. They did occasionally strain to hear each other and shout," What?"

Our meals came with much apologizing from our captain and wait staff. We could have cared less and proceeded to have a lovely meal. Surprisingly, there was no tab when we were ready to leave. The Management felt they could not charge us with the mayhem that had been exchanged. So after many thank yous and a large tip, we graciously left RL to walk to our hotel.

Mr. Clarke: I really enjoyed that meal! Especially the price!

Me: Well, you can bet that will never happen again in our lifetime!

Mr. Clarke: You never know, the Kardashians are staying at our hotel, and perhaps we will get a free room after the paparazzi find out!

Me: Who is going to tell them? As I plucked Mr. Clarke's cell phone out of his hand and tossed it in a lovely fountain.

Students of the School of Flaunt: A free meals is fine, but never stoop to this level of tacky behavior. This is highly unusual for Mr. Clarke and who not having a good night as I told him to get his own room, thus doubling our hotel bill! I think the Kardashians will thank me. Wait until Mr. Clarke finds out Mummy is hosting a lunch for them tomorrow!
