The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Cate Goes to Costco!

Cate Goes to Costco!!

Well, it had to happen sometime. Mon famille has discovered Costco. Picture this: three Brits gawking at the wide Costco Entrance. "Mesmerizing," was the term my husband remarked!

Really,  the Membership Department might be unnerving, with the bad photos, etc. No redo's as they say! (Really quite rude to give one such an ugly photo card, that.)

Once inside, all three of us gasped at the huge amounts of tissues for the loo, soap for the bath, laundry, etc, then we saw it: The Food Halls!

This rivals Harrods' Food Halls. In fact, if Harrods had a warehouse, it would be called Costco! The Fishmongers with whole king crabs, and lobsters! The Bakers showing off the largest pies and cakes we have ever seen! The Butchers with literally tons of carved meats! (Must be where Lady Gaga got her ham dress?) Red Meat Couture.

Sauntering on with the largest shopping cart in the world, we came upon the Dairy Chapel. A cool room, literally with all the dairy products you could dream of, except clotted cream. Followed by the other religion, the Fruit and Veggie Chapel, with huge portions of cut fruits and vegetables for one's table. What a sight and how cold inside these hushed hallowed rooms! Might be more pleasant on a hot summer's day? Note to self: go back next summer. (Should run out of supplies by then.)

We confess we all bought too much and my daughter loved the Juicy Couture lounging pants in four colors for half price! There was a cashmere sweater set I looked at, but no, I cannot wear single ply. My husband fingered the puffy down jackets by North Face. He had to have one. We were in discount heaven!

Before paying we decided to try to have Tea, just like Harrods in the café area. Fiona and I settled in on the clean white plastic table, not really my style and my husband went for Tea and Cakes. How disappointing when he came back with Hot Dogs and Smoothies! Oh well, Harrods has you beat Costco when it comes to Tea, dahling.

We paid the huge bill. Much larger than we supposed being everything was "such a bargain", and made our way to the doorway. We were "checked" out by a large lady who demanded our receipt and nosed through our cart to see if we were "pocketing "any items not paid for. That was a little daunting, but Fiona mentioned it wasn't as bad as the Pat Down she had at Heathrow.

So a quick call for the car and James put all our treasures in the trunk. Home to unpack and find a new room sized pantry for all the "Super Sized" larder essentials.

Now who wants to try some of the eight cans of Chili we had to have? We also have six boxes or crackers to go with.
