The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Oprah's Last Show with Mummy and James Swan!!

Oh, the squeals of laughter and merriment when Mummy got the call that she and I were invited to Oprah's Last Show in Chicago!! Now we were not among the Celebs, just guests in the audience, mind you, but you would have thought we were on our way to the Royal Wedding!!

So to bring you up to speed, Mummy had recovered from the serious Food Poisoning that kept the entire family from the Wedding of the Century. I was thrilled to see her so excited about Oprah's invitation, even though until recently, Mums did not know who Oprah was??? If you recall, she started speaking to Oprah and her BFF, Gayle at RL Restaurant in Chicago earlier this year. But I digress.

We wing our way to Chicago and take a look at what James Swan has been doing to her new Coop on East Lake Shore Drive! We are thrilled that James, himself is there and we are all staying at the Four Seasons!! A quick lunch, yes, back at RL and we are planning up a storm for Oprah's Event!! Of course, Mummy was able to get another ticket for James. So off we go to the United Center!

The crowds were so excited and milling around basking in the lovely evening light. No one was pushing of shoving, after all this is the crowd that follows Eckhart Tolle and Marianne Williamson, no less! We are ushered to our seats which are in a Sky Box, which is quite lovely.

(Note to Students of The School of Flaunt: Sky Box invitations should be accepted and your best behavior is always necessary, whether you are attending a hockey game or concert!)

Back to the Show of all Oprah Shows! In came the stars and celebs, Tom Hanks, swoon, I did think I caught a glimpse of him at the Four Seasons, but was not sure. Moving on, Madonna, Diane Sawyer, (now she is so elegant and true SOFer.) All were in attendance to laden on the praises of Ms. O. Of course there was Gayle King and Stedman made a great speech to honor Oprah. He mentioned that she still takes her lunch to work! Wow!

James and Mummy were mesmerized! Beyonce', Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx and Usher. Oh wait, Tyler Perry, Aretha Franklin and Stevie OMG Wonder are here. Now I have seen it all. No wait, Michael Jordan. I can now die happy. Now I am in heaven as Josh Groban takes the stage!! I do want him to marry my daughter. How can I make that happen?

Note to self: introduction ASAP. Such a nice man. Saw him on Regis and Kelly and was blown away by his graciousness and manners.

Not to be undone the Great Doctors, Phil and Oz came out. Where was Suzie Orman? Must be in the house somewhere, right? Mummy had no idea who many of these celebs were, but she loved Maya Angelou's reading and all the singing and dancing! As I watched James and Mummy basking in Entertainment History, I thought how lucky we were to have met Ms. O that day last fall in RL.

With all the excitement, and the amazing Beyonce', I suddenly realized Mummy was not in the Box. James had no idea where she had gone, so we dashed out to find the old girl, before something "unexpected" happened. These little surprises with Mummy were no news to me, but I worried James would be mortified if we found her stalking some celebs backstage.

We combed the halls and found our way to the dressing room areas. All the doors were marked with the Star's Names. We could not believe that many had not been on stage as of yet. And there she was, holding court with Jerry Seinfeld and Rosie O'Donnell. They were taking Cell Phone photos with her and she told them she would email them to HRH. I am sure they thought she was a "British Nut Job," but Mummy just might do it! Wait she just grabbed Tyler Perry to join the group! Shyly, I try to approach and extract the Mummy. James is following my lead. Everyone is so nice to us! I must admit, I am awestruck, but James is totally cool and gets us back to the Sky Box. Thanks James!

Later, she asked me who that nice young man was. I explained Jerry Seinfeld and the Seinfeld Show and she blurred over. "Oh well, she said, at least his wife Rosie is taking over Oprah's Studio so it won't go to waste! And we are going to her new show as soon as it begins!"

Rosie married to Jerry? I think not, but will not go there. James is laughing his ass off.

Cate in Chicago!
