Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Dinner with the Donald

This is our first blog on Flaunt Foodie Restaurants. How did the idea start? Well, Alexandra was going to visit friends and she was telling Cate about this. When queried about where they would be eating she mentioned that they were going to dine at The Trump National Golf Club in the Palos Verdes area! (Remember students it is called PV to those in the know, not Palos Verdes) Cate immediately said, "Oh you must share this with our Flaunt Foodie friends." Presto, Flaunt Foodie Restaurants was conceived.

Now, where to begin. For those of you who do not know Palos Verdes, CA. it is a gorgeous community right on the Pacific Ocean set high above on the cliffs. Good news for those who might worry about a tsunami, but then I digress.

We pull up to the front of the restaurant and are greeted with valet parkers, in fact you must use valet there. But they are speedy and immediately are opening all of the car doors for us. Then one of them charges to the double door entrance and opens it. I might add here that we were all admiring the beautiful fountain and the young man showed no worries about us taking our time.

Things were starting out well. But oh they got even better! A beautiful view of the Pacific was available from an expanse of windows that covered the entire back of the restaurant. If you wanted there were also balconies to sit outside on to enjoy your cocktails. Now that is a great way to start any meal.

Flaunt Foodies, dining out with the Donald can get a little pricey but he has a terrific Happy Hour menu for those of you who would like to be fiscally flaunt. Just arrive between 4-7 PM and there is wine by the glass for $5, cocktails for $5 and martinis for $7. No charge for the view! If you want to dine casually there is a great menu for that too.

After looking at the Happy Hour menu we decided that an order of Calamari with chili aioli sauce would be nice. Only $9 vs. $16 in the Café Pacific room. My husband said maybe we should order two and our host immediately said, "No, wait until you see how much they bring." Our eyes popped when we saw the bowl of calamari that our waiter placed before us. More than enough for four people! Just a warning Foodies and it was delicious!

It was now time to adjourn to the Café Pacific dining room. Beautiful painted ceilings, lush red velvet covered chairs, linens and flowers await you. And don't forget you are still looking at the Pacific Ocean!

Now I do have to admit that my appetite had been slightly dulled from the calamari so having a first course or even a salad wasn't important, especially after I saw the dessert menu! That was a total wow!

But having said that, my husband ordered his favorite, Smoked Salmon with a glass of Chateau L'Afrique Rose" which was recommended on the menu. Our hostess and hostess split a Surf & Turf Tartar (marinated beef filet & spicy tuna) with a glass of Melville Pinot Noir. I have to tell you that this dish also was served with bean salad, pickled onions, watermelon radish, quail egg, tomato and crostinis. My jealous eyes must have been showing since they did all offer me a taste! Perfection!

Main courses: Oh be still my heart! This is what we ordered.

Seafood Pescatore with linguini, mussels, clams, shrimp, white wine, garlic & tomatoes

Wine suggestion by the glass: Nipozzano Chianti Riserva, Tuscany, Italy

Spiced Duck Breast with root vegetable puree, asparagus, roasted beets, fig & port wine sauce (the sauce was to die for!!)

Wine suggestion by the glass, Four Graces Pinot Noir, Williamette Valley, Oregon

Tips of Filet Mignon Papardelle, marinated tenderloin tips, home made papadelle pasta (absolutely outstanding) spinach, Portobello mushrooms, garlic, shallots, red wine sauce, creamy Boursin cheese

Wine suggestion by the glass, Justin Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, CA

I had the Tips of Filet and so did our host. Bon Appetite!

Now it was dessert time! OMG, what to have?

Actually we had already decided upon two before ordering our entrees. My husband always has to have soufflé if it is on anyone's menu! It did not disappoint. Chocolate  And since none of us had had Crepes Bananas Foster in awhile, that is flamed at the table, it was a definite! We asked to share our desserts and the waiter smiled and said that was probably a good idea.

Flaunt Foodies you can enjoy the Trump National Golf Club and have just a hamburger and French fries for $10 in the Golfer's Lounge or go big and have an entrée for $26 to $44 there or in the Café Pacific. Either way you will have a wonderful dining experience all with an ocean view! Totally School of Flaunt!
