The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

“Mummy is taking us to Hong Kong!”

"Mummy is taking us to Hong Kong!"

Yes, Cate's Mother has invited me to join her and Cate in Hong Kong. "Girls week out," as she said! Evidently she read an article about the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit and said to herself, "I must go back for one last visit."

Cate's Mother wrote me a wonderful note inviting me to join them in Hong Kong. Remember that students, the hand written invitation! (Thank you Cate for dropping that little suggestion in her ear. I owe you!) But getting back to Mummy's note she reminisced about the first time she saw the harbor with all of the junks in it and how wonderful the shopping was then. As she said, "Clark Gable would just die now if he saw how the harbor was so sterile with no junks!"

According to her, she stocked up on Waterford crystal there in the 60's since it was cheaper than you could purchase it for in England. I guess if you break a goblet it hurts less if you only paid $7 for one. Cate told me that her Mother has service for forty. Wine, champagne flutes, port glasses etc. If they made it in her pattern of Lismore she has it. Goes with her Waterford crystal chandelier and matching candelabras in her dining room. She is a Brit through and through. No Lalique in her home even though she will admit to liking it.

But I digress. Guess how she is sending us? Singapore Airlines! Mummy told Cate that she wants us rested when we arrive and ready to shop. That is why Singapore Airlines is a must! Oh this is going to be so much fun and I'm so excited. Mummy, Cate, me and no husbands.

So Cate is meeting me and we are going First Class. We will each have our own suite with a sleeper suit and slippers by Givenchy. There is even a closet in each suite where the Flight Attendants hang your clothes. Plus a warm duvet for you to snuggle up in. And of course an amenity kit from Ferragamo. I will wear my Ferragamo shoes in honor of!

We are Booking the Cook with our reservations so that we have no worries about dining on Lobster Thermador. Nothing worse than looking at a menu and being told they are out of it! And of course there will be plenty of Dom Perignon. One of my personal favs.

And guess where we are staying? The Peninsula! And then guess where we are going? Macau! And we are staying at the Mandarin Oriental on Macau. (Mummy loves to gamble.) Oh Students of Flaunt will we have stories to tell you in a few short days. I feel like Xmas has arrived again and I'm ten years old! Oh I have to call Cate and ask her what she is packing. Who cares, if we don't have it I'm sure we can buy it! Always was my motto when I was a flight attendant. LOL!

Thank you Cate and Mummy!

Alexandra
