The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

The Snake Pit

We have all felt the uncomfortable looks. We have all wondered if we were UP to the status of shopping in certain stores. You know the type. Highly glossy top line designer establishments that employ the cruelest staff in the city. This is how my daughter came to call the Make-up department on the lower level of Barney's, The Snake Pit.

One descends the lovely staircase into the world of makeup and fragrances, only to be "locked on" with the most judging of eyes from the staff. Judging, judging, so unflattering and total antithesis of The School of Flaunt.

If and when you are in this situation, please hold your head high. Square your shoulders and proceed to whatever you are looking for. Or as Fiona does, tour the counters, say she is "Just Looking" and go directly to Bloomingdales for her purchases. I wonder how often this happens. I do think some of these top notch establishments should do the math on how many "uncomfortable shoppers" leave without making a purchase. Might make them step up with better Customer Service. A sincere smile and welcome would help.

Yes, I am talking to you, the judging man in the Handbag Dept. of Gucci.

Just watch me walk away.

I'm a proud person. After all, I am the customer, THEY are the working person. I obviously have money to shop there or I wouldn't be there. What do I care what they think of me? How do they know 'who' I am or 'how much' I can/can't spend. I would buy, buy, buy and revel in the shocked look on their faces. But that's just me.
