The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Cate's Week in the Windy City!

I have taken my mother to Chicago. Mummy is seeing a top doc at Northwestern. She as many Brits, believe that medical science is best in the States. So off we fly and land at O'Hare Airport. Quite lovely in the lighted musical passage in the United Terminal.

We were whisked off to The Four Seasons, by my cousin, a Chicago lawyer. Real fun to see him again. Once ensconced in our suite, Mummy declares the view is to die for and wants to call an Estate Agent to find her a Chicago condo! Really, Mum, hang on just a bit.

We have eaten at the Best restaurants and Clubs. I particularly loved the WAC, or Women's Athletic Club. No athletics to be seen, but the Cheese Soufflé and Carmel Cake made it necessary to walk Michigan Avenue for a couple hours. So SOF. Delightful.

Next to the Top Doc's office. Within 5 minutes, Mum had the Doctor wrapped around her little finger. She proceeded to tell him how she should be treated and he agreed!!!

So much for a second opinion! Anyway, my mother is not really ill, just some arthritis that makes her equestrian antics a bit painful to be sure.

Doctor: "Mrs. Cadbury, you must give up Hunting." Mums: "Doctor that is simply out of the question! I am 80 years old and will Hunt until they wheel me out on a gurney, and do so call me Clarrissa." Her blue eyes batting for effect.

The long and short of it is Mummy won and went directly to Hermes on Oak Street for a new pair of riding boots. (She was mumbling something about the pound being strong here?) Anyway the store was lovely and right across the street from Barney's and you are not going to believe this, PRADA! Who knew the shopping could be so lovely and convenient. It doesn't get better than this, Students!

We later had a light lunch at Fred's atop the new Barney's and were ready for naps!

Stay tuned, tonight we are wining and dining at the Saddle & Cycle Club. Mummy thinks we might need our riding gear. I do so hate to burst her bubble.
