The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

From Flaunt Fabulous to Flaunt Failure

The weekend has flown by. Dinner with Ozzie and Harriet, just kidding but they could be? This was a casual evening for all. Our hostess in a simple linen blouse and Capri pants and flats but always with the ever present long strand of pearls. As I said she does remind you of a 21st century Harriet.

As usual I seemed to have gravitated to black. I love my new Donna Karan black tuxedo jumpsuit and my Mui Mui scalloped ballerina flats. You know the ones with the double bow. I chose some wonderful costume earrings otherwise known as fashion jewelry to set off the jumpsuit. Yes dear devotees of flaunt I do mix costume and the real deal together. As we preach in the School of Flaunt handbook if you wear enough of the real thing and if you have a good eye you can mix the 18 carat with costume. I.e. the Paiget watch, a few gold bangle bracelets with costume jewelry earrings. Now this is an art form that does take some skill so we don't recommend it until you have been properly instructed by your wardrobe consult. Least we forget Tim Gunn would have been proud of the men. Not too causal, but not the country club look either. No madras pants! Puhleese!!

But getting back to our dinner. The evening started with a wonderful bottle of Cakebread chardonnay and some grilled shrimp followed by a salad of mixed greens, blue cheese, bacon and olives but the main course was just truly superb. Think pot roast that has been slowly cooking with balsamic vinegar, raisins, ginger and garlic which absolutely melted in your mouth, scalloped potatoes and green beans with red bell peppers served with a Mantanzas Creek Merlot. Of course all was presented on her Wedgewood china with Waterford wine glasses. The centerpiece was small gourds, pumpkins and votive candles. Such a lovely presentation and perfect for a fall dinner. Warres port with fruit and cheese plus an assortment of biscuits, including ones that had cranberries in them finished off the dinner.

Now here is where it gets dicey students! We advise you that one should never speak about religion or politics for both can ruin a lovely SOF dinner. What came up? Politics! Harriet turned into a character that could have been on FOX TV. Trust us Glenn Beck would have been proud. Before you know it, our ever reserved and proper Harriet was running her fingers threw her hair, rolling her eyes and moaning about this politician and that one. Remember Students of Flaunt that last glass of port can turn you into the host or hostess from Hell! Naturally we forgive her for this lapse but just think if your guests are new friends. Horrors! Bet you will be put on their B list for sure after that dinner!

So by 10:30 we were left with no alternative but to fain being tired. We feel quite sure that Harriet and Ozzie had headaches the following morning! Bet the Warres won't come out for awhile.
