The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Mother and LB Do Black Friday!

As I said in my last diary post I would tell you about Black Friday. Remember I was not able to walk a lot because of my foot and possible self medication too! LOL! But this was not going to deter my Mother. I could see her perusing all of the ads in the newspapers and she hasn't started shopping on the internet yet. Look out stores! Plus she had her cohort and new best friend LB to shop with. There is a God, thank you LB!

On Thanksgiving I had seen them putting their heads together and discussing the ads. I heard my Mother saying, "You know I never seem to have anything to wear. " Ha, this is the woman who really needs a dry cleaners moveable hanging rack in her closet. But in her self defense she said she had been cleaning out her closets and giving a lot of it to different charitable groups. Mother truly is all about charity, a selfless volunteer. That could lead me into other stories but let me continue with Black Friday for now.

LB arrives to pick up my Mother and I wave them good-bye and good shopping as they walk out arm in arm. I heard them discussing should we go to Saks first or Neiman's. Then I hear my Mother saying to LB, "now remember dear don't get caught up in faddish clothes, always choose something that is a classic. That way you will have it for years." As I said previously my mother really should have started the School of Flaunt! So off go the happy little twosome to make the stores merry.

Flash forward now to late in the afternoon. My happy little Black Friday warriors return laden with gifts for the holidays and gifts for themselves. I had seen that LB had worked her voodoo magic on Mother when she pulled out a pair of black jeans with black sequins on the back. Yes you read right! As Mother pulls these out the bag she is gushing about how cute these will be with her silk jacket which has sequins that she got during the season last year in Florida. So much for Lilly Pulitzer and the classics!

Then the two of them start discussing the latest spa treatments and I go for more self medication! Ah, but a good time was had by all and they helped the economy. Why do I see LB and myself planning a spa trip with my mother?

So my parents leave the next day to go home. Why so early? Social engagements, charity events and of course the house has to be decked out for the holidays! My Mother the never ending whirlwind of energy. I only hope when I'm her age I will be as active.

Now back to my Advil, ice and self medication. "Honey can you make me another Bloody Mary? Yes dear my foot is feeling a whole lot better."

XXOO,

Alexandra
