The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Art Basel Part Two

Waking in Sunny Florida is different than California. Cannot explain, just is.

After a lovely cup of tea in my Ritz suite, I went back to Art Basel to shop a bit! I was Hugely Successful and so pleased with myself. Lovely piece purchased for my home in NYC.

Note: Everyone is still in black, very chic, however for so early in the morning!

I decided to treat myself to a Mani Pedi at the Ritz Spa, so wonderful. I floated down to the pool where I intended to have lunch al fresco. Seated at a lovely umbrella covered lounge, I pulled out my e-reader. It was only a few seconds when the laughing across the pool caught my attention.

There was a large party totally having a wonderful time in a breezy cabana. Wait staff dotted in and out, laughter continuing. Then I heard the giggle from my childhood, oh, oh, she's baaaack.

I quietly made my way to the noisy cabana and could not help recognizing a few of the guests. Was that really J-Lo with her bambini all clad in Gucci? Mummy was bouncing a young girl on her knee. All adorable and having a great time. Then she noticed.

Mummy: Cate we have left many messages in your room! Come join us. Stephan and I both moved over to the Ritz. Too much partying at the W. I longed for some peace and quiet! Come meet my guests, Madonna and J-Lo! This is my daughter, Cate, She runs the School of Flaunt!

"How do you dos" were exchanged and I cringed as I heard myself mentioning that I was such a BIG FAN, etc. Students of School of Flaunt, when meeting celebrities, please do not bumble and fumble. It is daunting, but can be accomplished.

I was offered a comfy lounge and ordered some lunch and joined in the fun! Mummy had them all laughing with tales of England. Madonna moaned of missing the English Countryside and her horses. J-Lo asked many questions of where to take her young family on her next vaca. During this riveting discussion, I mused on how one could garner the "one-name" status. Imagine if I was known as just "CATE"? But I digress.

The Gucci Clad children had just shot a commercial for you guessed it, Gucci. Take note to watch for this in the top periodicals! The photographer was still with us. Lovely lady, I might add. Then Madonna and J-Lo were asked to sing by Mummy.

They obliged with a lovely melody, Mummy joining in off key did not spoil the fun. When I belted out my version, all went quiet, however. Ignorant of my blunder, I kept going and noticed Mummy dragging her pointer finger across her throat! What???

I was "getting the hook" from my own Mother? Singing is not my forte, but I do love it.

Perhaps I would have been a Gleek?

All in all, this was a wonderful visit to Florida and Art Basel. I continue to marvel at my mother's ability to create fun! She has done it all her life and I am lucky to be her daughter! What's this? She is now inviting the lot to a Country Weekend in the Cotswold's? They are accepting and exchanging emails. They are going to bring Gwyneth?

This is a good thing, right? Poor Daddy.
