The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Holiday Season 2010

Holiday Season 2010

We have had a wonderful time this year in the Cotswold's. All the family has gathered for Christmas, Boxing Day and the Holiday Hunt.

It was a beautiful "white" Christmas. The Halls were decked and decorated like never before. Mummy's friend and Interior Designer, Benjamin, coordinated the live boughs of evergreens and holly in the main hall. The staff of gardeners was inside on ladders, snapping to all of Ben's decorating directions. Watching this was so comical but the worst was when our head gardener, Fredrick, turned around and revealed a coin slot! (For you students who do not know the term, picture a plumber bending over and a tiny coin slot is in view, ugh.) Much as we love Fredrick, this could not go on. Mummy immediately purchased new overalls for all the gardeners and the problem was averted. (Much as our eyes had been averted previously.) Why is my father playing "Moon over Miami" on the piano?)

Our tree was filled with family heirloom ornaments and quite a few Radko's. As you all know at the School of Flaunt, gathering heirlooms is a smart and fun way to build your collection. So you can imagine how devastated we all were when our 12 foot Spruce fell over. One minute the tree was sparkling, the next a huge bang and crash and shards of broken splendor were everywhere. Thank goodness, all the dogs and cats were out of the room. In fact when we ran past the Library, they barely lifted their little heads to acknowledge the huge sound. (I am still suspicious of Mummy's Persian, Cleo. She has been known to cause a disaster and jump to a pillow and play dead.)

Fortunately the younger gardeners got the tree back in place and we all helped to clean up the great mess of broken glass. Mummy was near tears so I slipped out of the room, grabbed my bag and ran to the local Marks and Spencer to gather some new "heirlooms". My thought was well appreciated later that evening when we helped Mummy hang her new baubles on the live tree.

All in all, the tree falling is like life. We all love our treasures and comforts, but truth be told, we do not need all that we have. We just need each other.

Happiest of New Years to you and yours!
