The School of Flaunt

Back when "Flying Was Fun" Alexandra Smythe and Cate Clarke were Flight Attendants with a Major International Carrier. Prior to Private Jets coming into vogue, Alexandra and Cate traveled in the First Class World, meeting and greeting the top celebrities, politicians who would become Presidents, nouveau riche, and yes the occasional Headline Grabbing Criminal in Handcuffs!

What the two ladies viewed and experienced became fodder for the School of Flaunt, so much money, such bad taste and oh those terrible manners. Something had to be done! Hence, The School of Flaunt Handbook was born. Read More

Holiday Reservations: Yes I would like to make some. Thank You!

The guests arrived with many suitcases in tow. I can hear you laughing now! Ah, yes they were ready for any occasion and trust me there were "many" that we were going to attend. Boredom would not be a problem!

Even though the Doctor had told me to be careful with the foot there were still all of those last minute preparations. Make sure the guest room has wonderful soap (no Irish Mist), hair dryer, lots of towels, fresh flowers , ironed sheets (yes, you read right, that is an SOF standard) and the drawers in their bathroom en-suite are filled with extra shampoos, conditioners, dental floss, new combs and numerous rolls of extra toilet tissue. Now speaking of toilet tissue this is where we draw the line on themes. Please nothing with little Snowmen or Snow Flakes on it. That would be over kill!

Now as a small point if you are able to build your own home make sure that the guest closets are preferably walk in and are large enough to hold two suitcase stands. And never have your personal possessions crowding out your guests hanging space. Nothing worse when you are a guest than squeezing your clothes into an already overstuffed closet. I'll have to think about what those of you in condos will have to do. Oh how silly of me, have them stay in a hotel. Problem solved!

But getting back to guests, it is my opinion that yes they are on vacation but I'm going to enjoy myself too. Hence those dinner reservations! So when they arrived that evening we went to our favorite little Italian restaurant. Casual but wonderful and everyone came home full, tired and ready to go to bed. I think they probably had Chianti bottles dancing in their heads that night but my husband had volunteered to be the designated driver.

The next few days were a swirl of activities, from shooting Sporting Clays, taking in a play and movie, more dinner reservations, sharing reminiscences of good times and enjoying the Xmas tree together. My friends who I previously told you about and described as Ozzie and Harriet had all of us over for dinner and as usual they outdid themselves with Prime Rib and all of the fixings. And I might add Ozzie and Harriet were on the their best behavior and politics never came up. Thank you Lord!

Then the big day arrived. Xmas was finally here! Mother and Daddy were ensconced back East with our relatives there, so of course we had to call. My Aunt, God love her as always was enjoying the day! She and Mother had already started on a Bloody Mary or maybe two and were planning their shopping escapades for deals the following day. I discouraged them from arriving at the mall at midnight. Picture two older matrons from the East, slugging it out with the crowds gone mad for after holiday bargains. That is not a pretty picture.

Bottom line here I don't think they would have gone but they thoroughly enjoyed the idea of the whole adventure. Lots of giggling on their parts. Nothing like sisters! They are a formidable pair but so much fun together. After a lengthy call wishing everyone a wonderful Xmas and much love I returned to my kitchen.

Xmas Day to be continued,

Alexandra
